This year, Crewest Gallery, located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, celebrated their fifth year of the Dia De Los Muertos celebration exhibit. The Top of the Dome is one of the most anticipated shows by many artists and fans of the Day of the Dead celebration. This year, Crewest showcased over 100 ceramic skulls, designed by Gregg Stone, which were customized by dozens of painters, graphic designers, graffiti artists, sculptors, and tattoo artists. This year, the show was accompanied by feature artist and Lowrider Arte editor Edgar Hoill, who created a special Day of the Dead photographic installation and built an altar to remember those who passed away while crossing the U.S./Mexican border.
When the show opened and the metal curtains were pulled up, there was a mixture of color, texture, and the smell of copal in the air greeting you when you walked into the gallery. The show's opening reception turned out to be a success, with hundreds of artists and spectators filling the gallery to its maximum capacity.
